Australia Awards Indonesia

The Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government. They offer the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia and for high-achieving Australians to do the same overseas.

The Australia Awards are a whole-of-government initiative bringing together scholarships and fellowships administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
The Australia Awards include:
  • Australia Awards Scholarships, which provide long and short term opportunities to enhance leadership, knowledge and technical skills for individuals from partner governments, tertiary institutions and strategic organisations that are driving development.
  • Endeavour Awards, which provide a range of opportunities for study, research and professional development focusing on strengthening education linkages, skills and knowledge throughout the region.
Over time, the Australia Awards are helping to build enduring links between Australia and a new generation of international leaders for the 21st century.

Australia Awards in Indonesia
Australia’s international development assistance in Indonesia aims to work in partnership with the Government of Indonesia (GOI) to achieve a prosperous, democratic and safe nation by implementing Indonesia’s National Medium Term Development Plan. Australia Awards Scholarships are aligned with Australia’s development assistance in Indonesia, targeting human resource gaps in identified priority sectors. They aim to provide awardees with the skills and knowledge to drive change and influence economic and social development. Australia Awards will assess applicants for their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Indonesia. Australia Awards offers awards on the basis of merit, transparency and equal access. We strongly encourage applications from women, people with disability and people from Australian Government geographic focus areas—Papua, West Papua, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur and Aceh.

Australia Awards Scholarships are offered in two main categories: ‘Public Sector Category’ and ‘Open Category’.

Public applicants are from government organisations, state universities and state owned enterprises and must be approved by training or foreign cooperation bureaus (BKLN) of their local or central agencies. Public applicants from government agencies outside Jakarta may apply directly to the Australia Awards Scholarships program office with the approval of their relevant Kakanwil or Kadinas and approval from Bupati or Governor (or representative) where necessary. Calon Pegawai Negeri Sipil (CPNS) are not eligible to apply.

Open applicants are from private organisations, private universities and also include recent university graduates. No government approval is required and applications are to be submitted directly to the Australia Awards office. A letter of support from the applicant’s home agency, institution or private university may be included with the application. Public servants (pegawai negeri) cannot apply as ‘open applicants’.

Targeted and Non-Targeted Category
Australia Awards Scholarships are awarded as ‘Targeted’ or ‘Non-Targeted’. Up to 70% of Australia Awards Scholarships are Targeted; available for nominated staff from Government of Indonesia Key Agencies, Targeted Sectors and from DFAT Geographic Focus Areas. Further information on each of these sub-categories is available at www.australiaawardsindo.or.id

At least 30% of Australia Awards Scholarships are Non-Targeted available for public servants and non-public servants outside the DFAT Geographic Focus Areas.

Scholarships are for full-time study for a Masters or Doctorate degree from Australian tertiary institutions. The scholarship provides up to nine months full-time language and academic preparation in Indonesia. Students must achieve satisfactory results in this training to be able to continue their scholarships.
